The Man Who Wanted to Know Everything
This is the face of Leonardo da Vinci, one of the greatest minds of all time.Today,we know him mostly as an artist, but there was even more to Leonardo.Among his many talents,he was an engineer,an architect and an inventor.
Leonardo was born in Italy in 1452,near the village of Vinci.Although he grew up in the countryside,he was sent to Florence at around the age of fifteen to study under an artist. He was endlessly curious about the natural world, and took every opportunity to experience and examine it.To him, observation was an effective way of learning, and enabled him to look at things from a fresh perspective. He studied the movement of water, the growth of plants, the behaviour of animals and even the landscapes around his home town. These elements were the inspiration for the light and perspective in many of his paintings, including the famous Mona Lisa.
But what fascinated Leonardo most were birds and their mysterious power of flight, and he did many drawings of them. They inspired him to design machines to help people fly.He left behind many drawings and notes of his ideas for such inventions, including a parachute, a form of helicopter and a strange flying machine with flapping wings. These ideas were hundreds of years ahead of their time-in fact,Leonardo's ideas were so advanced that most of them could not be tested in his lifetime. We,having seen many of his ideas become reality, can now appreciate his genius in a way that no one then living could.

From Paintbrush to Lens
Pencils.Paper.Paint.These are some of the traditional tools and materials that people used to depict the world, before the invention of the camera.Painters developed superbly realistic techniques so that they could represent real things and people in great and exact detail. Each work of art they produced is a record of their time, providing us with a window to the past.
The invention of photography changed the way people recorded the world and themselves. With precision and speed, lens competed with paintbrush, especially in the case of portraits. Even the most talented painter cannot achieve the accuracy of which the camera is capable. Pushed out of the place it held in daily life, painting was no longer important. Some people even claimed that painting was dead.
In less than 200 years, photography itself gradually developed into an art form. Photographers capture life and events, inspiring people with the power of their works. Today, advances in technology have brought the amazing power of the camera into a new period.Almost everyone can easily take a photo that reveals the world in a unique way. With the help of photo editing software and apps, you can even create the impossible and make your craziest fantasies, such as standing on top of the Eiffel Tower or balancing an elephant in your hands, come true!
