Unit 1 A new start
Jim: Hi Sally, I'd like to ask for your help. Our teacher has asked me to make a schedule
for the school open day. You know, when parents and future students come to visit
the school to see what it is like.
Sally: Sure, Jim. I know about the open day. Do you have any ideas?
Jim: I think first the visitors can go to the gym. They can see the impressive facilities we
have there. Also, they can watch some exercise classes.
Sally: That's good, but in my opinion, before they go to the gym they should listen to a
presentation by the head teacher.
Jim: Great idea. So, first the head teacher will make a presentation in the school hall.
How long should it take?
Sally: Maybe 15 minutes. Then how about after the gym the visitors go to our new
science laboratories? They can see how we study science there?
Jim: Yes, that will be interesting. And it would be a good idea to let our visitors have
some free time to explore the campus before lunch at 12:30 pm.
Sally: And what about the afternoon?
Jim: At 1:30 pm they can get a taste of our different school clubs, like the drama club,
the music club or the debate club. What do you think?
Sally: That sounds fine. How about at the end of the open day we all meet in the school
hall to answer any questions? Then our students can finish by singing the school
song together.
Jim: Nice idea! Thanks a lot, Sally. Now, I had better get started on writing out the
schedule…
