Unit 5 Into the wild
Host: Hello and welcome to Have Your Say! Today's topic is: Should animals be used in
sports? For example, what do you think about using horses or dogs for racing or
jumping? Let's hear what Joe has to say. Hi Joe!
Joe: The fact is that people have used animals for different purposes for centuries, such
as dogs to help us hunt and horses to carry heavy packs. Using animals in sports
for entertainment is no different.
Host: I see your point, Joe! Now over to Tim to have his say.
Tim: I agree that using animals for sports is a good thing. People love seeing the power
and beauty of these impressive creatures running and jumping. Also, it is lovely
to see humans and animals respecting each other and working together to achieve
great results and win prizes.
Host: Now that's food for thought! Violet, what is your view on the topic of using
animals for sports?
Violet: Animals used in sports often suffer from spending long periods in uncomfortable
conditions with insufficient food and water. And when they become too old to
take part in the sport, they often become sick as people do not know how to take
care of them properly.
Host: Thanks for the opinion, Violet. Finally, let's hear what Gina has to say.
Gina: I've got three dogs and I present them at dog shows. These events are sporting
competitions. The dogs are trained to look their best and show a variety of skills
such as obeying my instructions and jumping over gates. We must remember
that animals such as dogs and horses need love and care to be strong sporting
performers.
Host: Thanks, Gina. That's all we've got time for today. Remember, if you have an
opinion on this topic, get in touch and have your say!
