Unit 4 Stage and screen
Simon: Hi, Holly. I've got two tickets to a Peking Opera. Would you like to come with
me?
Holly: Yes, I would! I've always wanted to see a Peking Opera. When is it?
Simon: It's on 23 March. That's a Saturday.
Holly: That's fine then. I can make it. Which opera is it?
Simon: It's Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Holly: Oh well, that's wonderful! I've been studying it, you see. It'll be interesting to
make a comparison between the book and the opera.
Simon: I don't know the story very well, so perhaps you can guide me through it! The
opera starts at 2:30 pm.
Holly: OK, so we should get there at least half an hour earlier to find our seats.
Simon: Actually, we could meet even earlier and get some lunch first. There's a café at the
theatre. Shall we meet at 1 pm?
Holly: Yes, that's an excellent idea! So, which theatre is the opera at?
Simon: It's at the Oriental Art Center. That's in Pudong, on the other side of Shanghai to
where you live.
Holly: Right, I'll have to cross the river then. What's the address?
Simon: It's 425 Dingxiang Road. It's probably easy for you to take the underground. You
need Line 2. Get off at the Science and Technology Museum stop, and then it's a
short walk.
Holly: Thanks, that's helpful. Is there a bus though?
Simon: Yes, the number 983 bus stops right outside the theatre.
Holly: Wonderful, I'll do that then. What should I take with me? A camera?
Simon: Hmm, no. I don't think you can take photos inside the theatre. Just bring some
money for the café and gift shop! The ticket's my treat though.
Holly: Thank you, Simon, that's so kind!
