Unit 3 Times change!
My name is Rajiv Singh. I was born in Bangalore in India in 1936. I have lived
here all my life. I worked as a teacher, but now I'm retired. I'm married and have three
children. Life has been good to me and I have seen many changes over the years.
When I was a boy, Bangalore was only a small city with fewer people and not so
much traffic, and I could walk to school with my schoolmates. But today the streets are
full of cars. Of course, in those days Britain ruled major parts of India, but we knew
independence was coming.
In recent years there have been many changes. The city is not even called Bangalore
anymore. Now it is called Bengaluru. This city has undergone rapid development and it
turns into an international centre for ICT. It attracts young people from all over India.
Today, there are buildings going up everywhere – skyscrapers and shopping centres.
Compared with the past, the pace of life is much faster now. Before, people would
have time to sit and talk in the parks. But now, people are always rushing about with no
time to chat.
It is an exciting but safe place full of opportunities for young people to get jobs and
bring up families. And the food is as tasty as ever. I still think Bangalore is a very special
place.
