Unit 2 Lessons in life
Ron: Hi Michelle, how are you?
Michelle: I'm not too bad, thanks Ron. I'm feeling a little envious of my cousin though.
She's having a really good time on holiday.
Ron: Well, you know what they say: the grass is always greener on the other side.
Maybe she's not having as much fun as you think.
Michelle: Yes, you're right. Thanks, Ron. What are you up to?
Ron: I'm going to the library to study for my exams. They don't start for six months,
but there's no time like the present!
Michelle: That's true. If you have some spare time now, you should use it.
Ron: So what are you up to today?
Michelle: I'm actually waiting to hear whether I've won a writing competition. I entered
several months ago but the results haven't been announced yet.
Ron: That is a long time! Well, good things come to those who wait. I think you'll do
really well.
Michelle: That's kind of you. If I win, I'll get a publishing agreement with a top publisher.
I'm not sure what I'll do if I lose though. It would be depressing!
Ron: Don't worry if you don't win. When one door closes, another opens. You might
be offered an agreement with another publisher.
Michelle: Yes, something else will come up! Isn't your brother with you today? Don't you
usually study together?
Ron: He said he would come and study but he hasn't turned up all week. I'm
disappointed in him.
Michelle: Well, actions speak louder than words! Perhaps he's not really interested in
studying after all.
Ron: I suspect that's true. We argued about this yesterday. I'm trying to help him pass
his exams, but something always goes wrong.
Michelle: You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs! There will always be
challenges.
Ron: You're right. I'd better go, Michelle. Bye for now!
Michelle: Bye!
