Ms. Marquez: Let's look at some pictures from my class party last semester.
They're dancing.

Let's talk about the pictures. Elena, are they playing a game?
Elena: Yes, they are.
Ms. Marquez: Right. They're playing a game. Lin, are they eating?
Lin: No, they're not. They're dancing.
Ms. Marquez: Shin-Jun, what am I doing in this picture?
Shin Jun: You are laughing.
Ms. Marquez: Right. I am laughing because I'm happy. Sabina, what is he doing?
Sabina: He's eating some chips.
Ms. Marquez: Right. He's eating some chips. What is she doing, Celia?
Celia: She's drinking soda.
Ms. Marquez: Yes. She's drinking soda. Good job. Now let's practice talking about what people aren't doing.
Let's begin.
They aren't eating. They're dancing.
He isn't eating salad. He's eating chips.
She isn't drinking milk. She's drinking soda.

Danny: The picnic is on Saturday?
Celia: Yes, but you can come.
Danny: Okay.
Jagraj: Hey, look.
(TV): I hear it's going to rain, Chet.
Chet: That's right. Rain today, rain tomorrow, and rain on Saturday.
(TV): Thank you, Chet.
Jagraj: Rain? There is no rain outside.
Ying Le: Yes. Today is nice.
Jagraj: Oh, no. It is raining.
Celia: What about the picnic?

Ms. Marquez: This is our last week of class. And we have to plan our celebration.
Ying Le: I'm so excited for the picnic.
Ms. Marquez: I want to have a picnic too, but we have a problem - bad weather on Saturday.
Jagraj: But the weather is nice right now.
Ms. Marquez: Yes, it is nice. And it was nice yesterday. But the weather report says it's going to rain on
Saturday.
Lin: Saturday? Our picnic.
Ms. Marquez: That's right, Lin. Bad weather for a picnic.

Ms. Marquez: Jagraj, do you like the rain?
Jagraj: Yes, I do. But I don't want rain on Saturday.
Ms. Marquez: I don't want that either, but unfortunately, the weather report says it's going to rain on Saturday.
And rain isn't picnic weather. But, I have a great idea. We can have a party the last night of our class.

Ms. Marquez has an excellent idea.
The students can have a party in the classroom on Thursday, the last night of class. Rain is no problem in the
classroom. They can bring food and drinks to the party. They can play music, dance, and play games.
The students are laughing and happy. They're going to have a lot of fun.

Ms. Marquez: Okay, it's going to rain on Saturday, so we're going to have our party on Thursday. And we're
going to have the party here in our classroom. I can bring a CD player and CDs, so we can have some music.
Ying Le: Good, I want to dance.
Ms. Marquez: Let's make a list. What can you bring to the party?
Shin Jun: I can bring soda.
Ms. Marquez: Great. Shin-Jun: is going to bring soda.
Celia: I can bring salad.
Ms. Marquez: Wonderful. Celia is going to bring salad.
Luis: I can bring potato chips.
Ms. Marquez: Luis is going to bring potato chips.
Lin: Roberto and I can bring pizza.
Ms. Marquez: Lin and Roberto are going to bring pizza.
Elena: Pablo and I can bring a cake.
Ms. Marquez: Pablo and Elena are going to bring a cake.
Sabina: I can bring some cookies.
Ms. Marquez: Okay. Sabina is going to bring cookies.
Ying Le: I can bring plates and napkins.
Ms. Marquez: Great. Ying Le is going to bring plates and napkins.
Jagraj: I want to bring something. What do we need?
Ms. Marquez: How about cups, Jagraj?
Jagraj: Yes. I can bring cups.
Ms. Marquez: Great. Jagraj is going to bring cups. Well, I think we have everything we need. It's going to be a
great party.
Ying Le: Can we bring friends?
Ms. Marquez: Yes. Bring your friends. We're going to eat and drink and have fun.
