 1 Fun Reading Show — Basic Story

Knowing how to read is very important. Reading helps you understand things. Many people want to get more
children, adults, and families to read.
A special program was created to help others learn about reading. This program is a tour that goes to different
places. It gets people watching it to be a part of it.
The program puts on a show that is 20 minutes long. It has two funny people putting on a show. They go to
schools all over California and perform.
One of the things they do is a game show with someone in the audience. That person has to answer questions
about books and reading. They will win a prize if they get the questions right.
The show is part of a program that costs a lot of money. It wants to get as many people involved in reading as
they can. They will travel to many different places.

 2 Fun Reading Show — Full Story

Hands at the State Capitol shot up in the air today, when the question was asked "Who wants to win a million
words?"
It was all part of the Readapalooza Tour, an innovative state program where the name of the game is reading.
The 20 minute traveling show features two characters, the Amazing Professor Umlaut and his sidekick
Ampersand, who use comedy and audience involvement to get the message across. The troupe has been visiting
schools, community centers and retail locations around California.
Today, on the east lawn at the Capitol, students from Sacramento's Jefferson Elementary School got into the act.
Among the activities in the zany show was a take-off on the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" TV show called
"Who Wants to Win a Million Words?" Kids who successfully answered questions about books won a
